Julia Heim

Lecturer of Foreign Language, Francophone, Italian, and Germanic Studies Department (FIGS)

Julia Heim (she/they) is a lecturer of foreign language in the department of Francophone, Italian, and Germanic Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Their scholarly areas of inquiry range from radical pedagogies to queer Italian media studies, to translation studies. Some of their recent publications include: “Italian LGBTQ representation in Transnational TV, ” “Why LGBTQIA+ Inclusivity Matters for Italian Studies,” and the co-edited volumes Queering Italian Media (Lexington, 2020) and Spaghetti Sissies (Palgrave, 2023). In addition to research, Heim is a translator of queer theory, art criticism, and the children’s book series Geronimo Stilton. They are currently working on a digital Italian language learning resource called PRIMA (The Pedagogical Repository of Italian Media Activities) which can be accessed at primalearning.org.
