Matthew Aiello is a Ph.D. Candidate in English at UPenn. His dissertation, Writing Under Duress: Trauma and Repetition in Early England, 1070-1270 treats trauma as a dynamic force that can be reconfigured as a tool of historical analysis for premodern texts while also exploring how trauma theory itself can be changed by the decentering agent of the premodern. His published work has appeared in Comitatus, Essays and Studies, Review of English Studies, and most recently in New Medieval Literatures.
