Fresh from digital humanities bootcamps this summer, three training grant recipients share their new-found DH knowledge. Penn grad students Andrew Hudson and Leslie Jones explore what they've learned about GIS, Data and Platforms, HTML and Ruby, and how they plan to implement these DH tools in their own dissertation research.
Andrew Hudson | "Using GIS Software in the Humanities"
Andrew will disuss is plans to use GIS software in the humanities. He took a seminar on using the software ArGIS at the DHSI conference at the University of Victoria in June. He will present how historians and other humanists can use maps to present the geography and spatial dimension of their research.
Leslie Jones | "Mapping Digital Activism"
Leslie will explore an easy-to-implement method of collecting and organizing hashtag social movements in real time. As a case study, Leslie Jones will present the results of a Twitter search for a currently trending hashtag.
