Whether you love them or hate them, tools like ChatGPT and Gemini are increasingly hard to ignore in academic research. This presentation will help you understand more about how they actually do what they do so you can be a better user/critic. We will consider what can and cannot be done with these tools and consider some of the many ethical considerations that arise. Additionally, we will inevitably get into what they mean for classes where reading and writing are central means and modes of learning.
Dr. J.D. Porter is Associate Direcrtor of Digital Research in the Humanities in the Price Lab and reluctant expert on artifical intelligence.
