Prof. Steiner will discuss her work with a team transcribing, translating, and digitizing a massive fifteenth-century royal genealogical roll at the Free Library of Philadelphia. Many dozens of these genealogical rolls were produced in a range of sizes and formats in fifteenth-century England during the Wars of the Roses. The presentation will include discussion of the challenges of making a complex medieval material text available to modern viewers - students, scholars, members of the Richard III Society - and how digital tools present both solutions and problems.
